About M(i)e

Portrait of Mieke Meyfroidt

Hello and welcome! I am a Belgian intuitive abstract artist creating evocative acrylic paintings that explore the balance between colors and raw, organic creative flow. Since beginning my artistic journey in 2021, the canvas has become my ultimate space for complete mindfulness. This exploration has led to a highly diverse portfolio that I proudly call "50 Shades of Mie."

My Artistic Journey

My path into the world of art started entirely by coincidence. Seeking a creative outlet during a challenging week in my life, I looked for a distraction. I could have just as easily booked a dance class or a pottery workshop, but instead, I enrolled in a five-day intuitive painting course rooted in Vedic Art. This philosophy does not teach technical rules; instead, it uses principles to help you bypass the logical mind and remember your natural, unforced creative flow.

Without any prior knowledge of technique or color studies, I discovered that I could transform a blank canvas into something that made me feel deeply good. Throughout the entire process, I was in a state of total mindfulness. And just like that... my exploration journey began.

To challenge myself further, I joined a local art center where elderly artists paint together. I wanted to witness their process and learn how to paint figuratively through imitation. This was a completely different approach, bringing even more mindfulness into my routine! Before long, I had the opportunity to present my works during their yearly exhibition. To my surprise, I was asked to use one of my abstract pieces for the advertisement flyer of an abstract exhibition three months later. I received plenty of positive feedback and requests to sell my art, but the time wasn't right just yet—I couldn't bring myself to release "my babies" into the world, except for one.
